ReadingAGLP TO HELP ASEAN GEAR UP FOR AEC 2015ENTREPRENEURSHIP and managing globalisation are among the pertinent issues for today's leaders, especially those in Malaysia as the country is on track to achieve a developed nation status.
Besides their corporate and industry experience, top executives in the public and private sectors can gain much more from the Asean Global Leadership Programme (AGLP), which will make them better leaders and equip them with skills to manage challenges within the region and globally.
"The AGLPs are custom-designed leadership development programmes for the top business leaders and policymakers in the Asean region in preparation for the challenges that come with the implementation of the AEC (Asean Economic Community) by 2015.
"The programmes focused on entrepreneurship, innovation and managing globalisation," said SRW&Co chairman and founding partner Daniel Wong.
That is why the AGLP, which is conducted in Cambridge, Beijing, and Berkeley in the United States, has received good response from organisations in the private and public sectors in the region.
The AGLPs in Cambridge and Beijing have seen participants from Malaysia.
Among the AGLP alumni members from Malaysia are SME Corp Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Hafsah Hashim, former Kuwait Finance House Malaysia Bhd CEO Datuk Jamelah Jamaluddin, Tenaga Nasional Bhd chief strategy officer Megat Jalaluddin, UEM Sunrise group chief financial officer (CFO) Adzhar Othman, and MasterSkill Education Group CEO Datuk Seri Santhara Kumar.
Wong said among the prominent alumni are the chairmen and CEOs of state-owned enterprises and conglomerates, as well as the assistant governors of the Central Bank of Indonesia.
"The response from Malaysian organisations was fairly positive, with a mix of C-suite executives from government-linked companies like Tenaga Nasional, Telekom Malaysia and Proton to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across industries.
"The SME delegates are being sponsored by the SME Corp and also HRDF (Human Resource Development Fund). The programme is 100 per cent HRDF claimable," he added.
The Cambridge AGLP is part of the global series of executive education programmes launched by regional consultancy SRW&Co, in collaboration with the global business schools like University of Cambridge Judge Business School in the United Kingdom, University of Berkeley Haas School of Business in the US and Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business in China.
Wong said the first global leadership programme (CAGLP) was launched in 2009 and sixth edition will be conducted from September 14 to 19 this year.
"Each year, we bring a group of 25 CEOs and business entrepreneurs from the Asean countries to Cambridge campus for the one-week programme.
"To date , we have five annual runs of the CAGLP since 2009 with an alumni of about 120 top executives from the region.
"From the feedback of the participants, the programme is deemed to be very successful with the repeat annual runs since 2009," he said.
Wong said under the programme, participants have the opportunity to have intellectual discourse with the world-class faculties of the global business schools, as well as listen to guest speakers comprising prominent business entrepreneurs and CEOs from reputed multinational corporations and conglomerates.
"The delegates will also share their knowledge and insights as successful business leaders from the Asean region during the programme, which is designed to be interactive," he said in an email interview.
The AGLP also provides opportunities for business networking among the participants from the Asean countries, who will face the common challenges of the AEC implementation.
The post-programme networking is sustained through regular alumni gatherings organised by the AGLP Club Secretariat, which is SRW&Co, for the AGLP alumni.
